The MÁV Symphony Orchestra, now a chamber opera, was founded in 1945. The orchestra, with its varied program from baroque to modern compositions, is one of the best in Hungary.

For the past 7 decades, they have performed with world-famous conductors such as Kobayashi Ken-Ichiro, Franco Ferrara, Mark Gorenstein, Herbert Blomstedt or Irwin Homan and with world stars such as Kiri Te Kanawa, Roberto Alagna, Dudu Fischer, Menahem Pressler, Helen Donath, or Erika Miklósa, Andrea Rost, Tamás Vásáry, Zoltán Kocsis, Miklós Perényi, Kristóf Baráti, Péter Frankl worked together.
The high musical art of the MÁV Symphony Orchestra has been recognized several times during concerts and guest appearances abroad. In addition to the famous concert tours in Europe, they had successful performances in Brazil, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Colombia or in Lebanon, Japan, China, Hong Kong and Oman. In 1999, the orchestra performed in Tokyo Dome in the "Three Tenors Concerto" with José Carreras, Placido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti, as the only Hungarian orchestra, in front of 32 000 spectators.
