The Leipzig Symphony Orchestra (LSO) was founded in 1963 under the name “State Orchestra of the Leipzig District”. The orchestra works with world-class stars, but also gives young musicians the opportunity to prove themselves in concerts. Especially in the cooperation with the universities for music in Leipzig and Weimar as well as the state high schools for music, the orchestra realizes the concern and the obligation to promote the next generation of artists. With over 100 concerts a year, the LSO makes an important contribution to maintaining and expanding the musical landscape far beyond Central Germany and has a decisive influence on musical life in the cultural area of ​​Leipzig, where it is the only symphonic orchestra for around 450,000 people. Whether at the "Usedom Music Festival", the "Darß Classic Nights", on the Mainau Island of Flowers, in the Berliner Philharmonie, the Meistersingerhalle in Nuremberg, the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt aM, the Konzerthaus am Gendarmenmarkt or the Gewandhaus in Leipzig - the name Leipzig Symphony Orchestra has become a synonym for outstanding performance. The orchestra's wide-ranging repertoire, which has appeared on several CDs, ranges from classic-romantic and modern symphonies to operas, operettas, musicals and film music and symphonic entertainment music. Various chamber music ensembles complete this extensive offer. Guest tours have taken the Leipzig Symphony Orchestra to Poland, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, South Korea, China, Hungary and Mexico.
